An Amicable Parting
The Gloucester Adventure, Inc., operators of the Schooner Adventure and Captain Stefan Edick announce that by mutual agreement Captain Stefan Edick is leaving the organization. “We thank Stefan for his outstanding efforts in getting the Adventure sailing again and in building our organization to the point where it is today. We wish him the best in his future endeavors, and we know we share the sentiments of our community in saying thank you to the Skipper.†– John Morris, president of the Board of Directors –
Captain Edick joined Adventure in 2014 as Captain of the vessel and consultant, and in 2015 was named Executive Director. He played a key role in the completion of the restoration project and obtaining Coast Guard Passenger Vessel certification. During his tenure, Adventure hosted thousands of school-age children for educational programs. Captain Edick also initiated a search for descendants of the men who sailed the Adventure during its years as a productive fishing schooner, and this led to regular sails with descendants from the crews of all of Gloucester’s fishing schooners. Adventure was one of the lead vessels in the Parade of Sail in the Sail Boston festival in 2017, and won the Gloucester Schooner Festival’s annual schooner race for three consecutive years. “During Captain Edick’s term at the helm of the organization, Adventure experienced considerable growth and positive change, and her visibility increased both locally and nationally,†Morris said. “We are grateful for his service to the vessel and the community.†Morris also noted that the Board has concentrated its effort on planning for the future direction of Adventure. “Much effort has gone into revising our strategic plan, reviewing staff roles, and laying a new course for the future.”
