Lecture by Mathew Stackpole: Restoration of Adventure and Ernesitna

 7:30 AM – 8:45 M | $25 Suggested Donation

Matthew Stackpole is a highly regarded maritime historian living on Martha’s Vineyard. Matthew is currently a member of the leadership team at the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey Association (SEMA) and is consulting on the ongoing restoration of this National Historic Landmark Gloucester fishing schooner at the Booth Bay Shipyard in Maine. SEMA is a 501c(3) not-for-profit corporation to provide for the maintenance, equipment, manning, programming, and operation of the Schooner Ernrstina-Morrisey as a sail training vessel, school ship and educational enterprise. Prior to joining the SEMA team, Matthew was the Ship’s Historian and Major Gifts Officer at Mystic Seaport for the restoration of the Charles W. Morgan, the last whaling ship still sailing and also a National Historic Landmark.

Matthew will discuss the significance of the Ernestina restoration and how vessels like Ernestina and Adventure are vital educational resources for promoting New England’s maritime heritage.
