Hi. I sailed on the Adventure first week September in both 78 and 80 with Capt Jim. Took many photos and enjoyed great weather both weeks. During the 78 sail, I asked if I could climb to the top of the main mast to take a photo from that perspective. It was decided that it would be better for all if one of the young crew tried it and the result was a beautiful framed shot from Bow to Stern that I would like to donate to your collection. Please let me know who I can contact, as I will be visiting the area the week of 9/23. Thanks, George.
I am the Eldest Granchild of Capt. Jeffrey Thomas. I have 2 other Cousins Raymah Thomas Roberts and Cynthia Thomas Dickens of China, Maine. I have been Hearing about the Restoration of the Adventure and Delighted. Please put me on your mailing list so I can keep up with her journey.
Congratulations on getting The Adventure back on the water sailing again !!
I was lucky enough to have sailed aboard the Adventure with Capt Sharp twice back in the 80’s. We still have a video, many pictures and a “Sailing Adventure” poster Capt Jim was nice enough to sign. Great, great memories !!
I sailed on the Adventure for a five night trip in 1983. I came from San Francisco on the recommendation of a friend, driving from New York to Camden. It was a wonderful trip. I remember the wonderful island stops, great meals, and washing my hair with ivory dish soap by pulling up a bucket of water off the side of the vessel! I found this site while looking for a repeat trip, now thirty years later.
So glad they all enjoyed the book. We have a special school assembly program – Skippy’s Adventure Program – where we share the book and demostrate the dory fishing equipment letting the kids see first hand what dory fishing was like.
I had a chance to read to my Son’s 3rd grade class. I picked the book, ‘Skippy Finds Adventure’, because my son and I love sailing and fishing. The class loved the story. The real life pictures of Adventure and Skippy were the highlight of the classroom visit. The innovative story approach is a great tool for educating young and old(er) alike. Thank you!
I sailed on the Adventure in June of 1967 during the Arab Israeli 6 day war. No one on board was the wiser until we left at the end of the cruise. It was a great time unspoiled by computer tablets or cell phones. You were truly in a different time for an entire week.
I’m afraid we don’t know anything about another namesake from long ago. Our Schooner Adventure was built in 1926 in Essex, MA, USA and to our knowledge never went to England.
Hi..I was searching for more information about my ancestor Robert Lang Paige who was the Master of the Schooner Adventure registered in Dartmouth, England
in 1830. He was buried in Newfoundland Cathedral in 1830 but that is all I have been able to find about him and his vessel. Does anyone know if the schooner was wrecked and he was drowned or whether he died of illness…any more information
about him or his vessel would be of great interest to me.
Thank you
William Paige
I sailed aboard Adventure in the early 1970’s. It was a wonderful experience! Such a beautiful ship!! Jim Sharp was the captain. I was glad that the passengers were able to join the full time crew in their work. I can say it was the best vacation I have ever been on. I was a bit sad to hear that she was no longer doing cruises but so glad that she is being preserved and will be available for all to see and visit.
I do remember being late to the dock because I had stopped to help a woman who was in a terrible auto accident that happened just in front of my car on the road traveling through New Hampshire. Once the ambulance had arrived I excused myself and rushed to make it to Maine to get aboard. I arrived with blood on my shirt but I made it in time to enjoy an experience of a lifetime. I later became an EMT because I realized that if I could handle that accident scene I could deal with other emergencies.
I have wonderful memories of Adventure and her crew. I also have photos that I took during that week so long ago.
