They came, they sang, they danced at the Codfish Ball!
Inspired by Shirley Temple singing “At the Codfish Ball†in the 1930’s movie Captain January, Schooner Adventure held a celebration of shared community as a grand finale to the 2019 Schooner Sailing Season. This first annual Fall party honored the support of our members and hardworking volunteers. It was a wonderful success and thanks to all who participated we were able to raise our goal of $25,000!
Codfish Ball Chairperson and Adventure Board member Jonathan Jaques said, “This fun celebration  has the potential to become a yearly tradition drawing a festive crowd of supporters down to the Gloucester waterfront!â€
With the Schooner Adventure on the pier as a backdrop and open for tours, folks enjoyed a festive watery theme under two tents. The Fish Grab Game and Photo booth as well as a raffle and a silent auction put the FUN in FUNdraiser. People dressed with great imagination. Some arrived as period perfect flappers with dapper partners. Many donned nautical or historic maritime clothes. Three Sheets to the Wind entertained with traditional sea songs that folks could sing along. Miss Tina of Rockport got everyone swing dancing to the live sounds of the Cape Ann Big Band. No one went away hungry after dining on traditional fish chowder, codfish balls and beans provided by the Causeway Restaurant. Fun was had by all, both young and old salts.
Schooner Adventure wishes to THANK our individual and corporate sponsors for their support of this event: Bank Gloucester, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Thomas E.
